Nimue Lattanzi, born into an artistic lineage, began painting before she could walk. She was a year and a half old, seated in her high chair, and color was already a living substance for her—something to touch, to feel, to inhabit. Her first tools were finger paints: colors designed for children, yet in her hands they became a primordial gesture, a direct contact with the surface.
At first, there were imprints. Hands and feet immersed in color left traces on paper, like marks of presence, like a first affirmation of being. Then came the desire to pour the color, to let it fall freely from the jar onto paper or canvas. At times it was necessary to restrain the impulse to empty everything at once, yet even in that gesture there was a clear expressive urgency: a need for abundance, for flow, for excess.
From that moment on, exploration became instinctive and open. Inks, pencils, and markers joined the process, and soon brushes appeared as well—not to draw forms, but to accompany the movement of color, to spread it, follow it, listen to it. If at first I painted beside her to support her, shortly after the age of two Nimue was already choosing her own colors and deciding, with absolute naturalness, when a painting was complete.
She spent long stretches of time painting, often alone, sometimes asking only for a silent presence beside her. The phase that now appears most intense and surprising from a creative perspective is the one between a year and a half and two and a half years of age: a time when the gesture was not yet mediated by intention, but arose directly from the body and from perception.
In the years that followed, she moved through different chromatic seasons, carefully selecting dominant colors—red, black, yellow—until arriving at a series of monochromatic works in which pink and black became field, breath, atmosphere.
From the very beginning, her works were entirely abstract. Only later did Nimue begin to attribute figurative meaning to the patches of color, describing what they represented for her. As if the image arrived after the gesture, as if meaning slowly emerged from matter, following the inner time of vision.
Nimue was born on 26 February 2021. The paintings you see in this gallery have been done between 2022 and 2026.

"When he works, he submerges himself totally into the creation of his paintings. Observing him is something captivating. What really impress you are the determination of his gestures; the strength of his hand while holding the brush; the confidence in which he draws from chance. For this reason the lines he draws flow in a natural way as if they knew where to go, when to stop, when to become thicker and when to get thinner.
